Downtown beach party
It would not be a proper Portland celebration without an after-party. Hence, the TBF V Summer Beach Party - featuring live bands on a barge, beer/wine garden, food carts, free chair massages, and fun for kids, including two big bounce houses and art activities coordinated by the not-for-profit P:ear and Recycled Rain Project. For those who wish to stay in the water there will be a swimming area marked off.
We have some awesomely fabulous music lined up for TBF V. Portland favorite the Ukeladies will kick things off on the floating barge, followed by raucous Russian/Eastern Euro folk-punk band, Chervona. Then to bring the day to a rousing finish will be Brownish Black, spirited indie soul that swoons and swings ("they don't walk the line between garage and soul - they destroy it").
Adding more flavor will be the Mysti Krewe of Nimbus, Portland's Mardi Gras march ensemble who lead both floaters parades, backed by the explosively effervescent sounds of LoveBomb Go-Go.
This year, for the first time we'll have not one, but two 100-foot long slip 'n slides - on the grass in the Tom McCall Bowl.
And hey, guess what? Turns out innertubes make great recliners. So after you float find a nice spot to lounge and take in the sun. Enjoy the music and go back in for a dip.
Floaters get in to the Beach Party as part of their registration to The Big Float with a TBF wristband. Non-floaters are welcome as well. You pay a measly $10 admission at the door.
Stick around and enjoy the party - tell tales of your tremendous voyage!
